Race Highlights
I raced from 1996 to 2006 and had a great time. Over the years I notched a solid handful of Top-10 finishes in WORS Expert (early 2000′s) as well as a solid handful of Top-10 finishes in Cat P/1/2 (2006). I also raced a lot in collegiate cycling after founding the UW-Whitewater Cycling Team in 1996. We races Nationals several years and did a lot of traveling during the seasons. Among all, some of my best memories are being on a team and working together.
I’ve also organized, promoted and managed about 12-20 cycling events over the years, including a WORS race and I was the co-event director for the 2002 NORBA National Mountain Bike Race at Alpine Valley.
In My Own Words
I spend my off-season doing: Working, spending time with my wife and kids and trying to relax. I also hit the weights, plyo and on-bike training and mix in speed skating and snowshoeing.
My goals and expectations for 2012 are: Help the Masters team win some races and hopefully get a chance to place well myself. My targets are TOAD and State Crit Championships.
I started racing because: It was a lot of fun and I was kind of good at it. I was also very intrigued by the culture and heritage of cycling…
My cycling mentors and/or influences are: My second cousin named Steve who informed me there was bike racing in Wisconsin in 1995 and a few other folks.
I consider my finest moment on the bike to be: The 2001 Kewaskum WORS race. I was in “the zone” and had the best race of my life. I was leading and riding at the front, but freaked myself out thinking I couldn’t maintain the pace. Finished 6th. It was a lot of fun.
The one thing I’ve done on a bike that I will never do again: Try to adjust my cycling computer sensor while riding and racing dual slalom.
When I’m not on my bike, I like to: Spend time with my wife and kids and play.
Something you probably don’t know about me is: I’ve been named to the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Forty under 40 Business People to Watch and their Powerbook.
