Team Gathers at 2011 Trek 100 in Support of Cure for Childhood Cancer Research

Trek 100 Red Team

Some of the team breaks from the post race festivities for a quick photo.

Hard to believe it has come and gone already! It seems like the Trek 100 is always the start of the “peak” season, but the weather’s been so poor this year it feels like we’re just getting started with our riding.
Team Wisconsin brought 25 riders to the event this year, and it was great to see the Big Red Train at the front of the group. I’m pretty sure that there will be more than a few people who remember a “bunch of racers in red uniforms…” blowing by them out in the country. A great event for a great cause – when all the money is counted, Team Wisconsin/KS Energy raised over $5,000 to help the families battling
childhood cancer.

As it turned out, there was only one race scheduled over the weekend, so most riders were able to make it out to Waterloo for the ride. Even most of the guys who did the WORS race the following day were
there for at least part of the 100 mile route. Joe Maloney was riding high on Twizzlers all day and kept everyone around him entertained with his unlimited energy, while the Miller Twins (Lite and Genuine Draft?) kept it hot on the front of the pack.

It’s always fun to do a long ride with friends, even better when you know that you’re helping a great cause. Last of the base miles before ToAD, let’s see those 3s on the podium now!
