Team Wheaton Scores First Win of the Season

The team embarked on its 2008 race season by heading out to Madison for the first of two races run by Great Dane Velo. Wheaton Franciscan was represented in just about every category offered over the course of the day. Now on to the highlights………

Nick and Addison played an aggressive race in the Cat 4 category, working hard to establish a break. After several attempts, the field seemed determined to stick together. Nick still scored a nice top 10 and Addison was well up in the sprint also.

In the Masters 123, Dave and Scott rock and rolled with the largest field of the day. Scott worked some early moves and set up Dave to make the first serious attack of the race. After a few laps solo, Dave was joined by the heavy hitters in the field and a group of 9 stayed away eventually catching the field on the finishing sprint.  Dave ended up 8th weaving his way around the field stragglers to the finish line.

The highlight of the weekend came in the Masters 4/5 race, with a big win by Doug Wambach! In the last lap Doug used his team to perfection, making a huge attack into the wind with teammates ready to choke up the front of the field. Doug held on and with his hands held high, gave the two-arm victory salute! I hope someone has pictures?

The team is looking forward to their next events in Menomonee Falls this Sat and then to Madison for Great Dane #2 on Sunday.  We figure to have even more teammates in these events!
