Whitnall Park Spring Classic Summary – April 22, 2017

It was a perfect day for bicycle racing, with light winds and temperatures in the 50’s most of the day.  A crisp April morning gave way to a clear sun-filled afternoon.  Light winds brought the sounds of Spring – birds chirping, children playing on the nearby playground, and carbon wheels on asphalt.  The course was in great shape, as volunteers worked hard to clear winter’s detritus.  Major kudos to Andy Rossa, who orchestrated a beautiful event again this year.

Whitnall Park is one of many picturesque gems in the Milwaukee County Park system, nestled in the southwest corner of the county.  Award-winning botanical gardens, lots of wooded and lawn expanses, plenty of wildlife, and of course, a one-mile undulating loop that could be one of the best courses of the WCA series.

The turnout was great, and was a great early season test of fitness.  We saw both courageous breakaways and adrenaline surging sprint finishes.  There was something for every cycling fan, from novice to pro. The Whitnall Park Spring Classic offers a pre-race clinic for any cyclist interested in bicycle racing, led by some of the team’s most experienced racers.  The course is a perfect place to ignite a bike racing passion, a great combination of sweeping turns and moderate climbs.

Special shout out and thanks to sponsors KS Energy Services, Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, Trek Bikes, Emerys, Country Financial, and Clifbar for their support of the team and kickoff to another exceptional year.
