Day 3 of the Memorial Day Weekend racing began with strong winds and heavy thunderstorms. The sun eventually fell on the men’s Pro/1/2 field as they began taking their laps around Weed Park in Muscatine, IA for the 33rd annual Melon City Criterium. Steady from the start, the pace rarely dipped below 30mph.

The peloton would steam roll the sweeping left hand slope on the back side of the course then charge the 200 meter climb leading into a very tight 2 turn chicane just before the finish line. KS Energy Services was well represented with Bryan Fosler, Nick Frye and David Paquette rotating through the front end of the field.
Aerocat Cycling was able to gather their train and control the front end coming into the final laps of the race. With no breaks established, it was mayhem on the front as everyone in the field tried to establish position for the find sprint.
The peloton charged the finishing climb with as much energy as the morning storm. David Paquette was in excellent position behind Aerocat’s leadout train going into the last lap, but his lap was cut short when riders ahead of him crashed on the downhill section and could not be avoided. Aerocat’s train previaled on the day as they successfully delivered their sprinter Juan Pablo Dotti for the win.
