KS Energy Services / Team Wisconsin kicked off the season on April 9th at Revere’s Wells Street Tavern in quite downtown Delafield, WI. Parking after a long commute in the welcoming sun I staggered my way into the tavern. An unusual site, as was clear by the looks I received from the waiting staff. Many have staggered out, but with numb legs from my long drive I was flipping the trend. Dimly lit in midday prep, Revere’s felt cool and cavernous but there was a tangible energy. Following the chatter of teammates making their greetings and gathering in a private lower level, the atmosphere felt cathedral.
Everyone took seats as team president, Dave Eckel, made his move to begin the business at hand of welcoming team and sponsors. It was a meeting not unlike others from past years with the logistics of seasonal prep and hu-ra-ra, but this year there was unmistakable excitement and unity. Team Wisconsin had had a few rough years, close to dismantle, but scraped by on the passions of few key members and sponsors; and now, in a flurry of renewed life, the team gathered as if the spring sun meant more than just a great day for a ride.
Team Wisconsin received a bit a makeover from the past few years with new title sponsor KS Energy Services and sizable crew of new riders. New sponsors means new threads and team went back to their roots of “the red team” with the unveiling of a vibrant red and white kit.
The team was all smiles as pictures were snapped and riders began kitting up for the first ride in the new colors. Heading west out of Delafield, 25 riders filed down the road in an electric flash of red. A few more photos were taken as the crew rolled along until the Director Sportif gave the nod for the inevitable wind up to test some legs. Smile and cheer never gave way to grimace even as the train began to roll and playful attacks flew off the front; a testament perhaps, that even through struggle, this team never ceases enjoying the ride.
Thanks to Revere’s for being a wonderful host to our team and staff. Thank you to KS Energy Services for renewing the life of this team. Thank you to MC2 for keeping us alive. And to all our sponsors, supporters, fans, family and those working tirelessly to keep this train rolling,
THANK YOU!
