Team WI Enjoys More Success in Week 2

img_4729The race schedule offered up two races for the weekend.  Saturday in Menomenee Falls, and Sunday once again in Madison for Great Dane #2.  Weather was perfect and relatively calm winds kept the pace fast both days.  Given that the collegiate regionals were in Madison this past weekend, our younger mates were busy competing against the other schools across the Midwest so it was up to the senior folks to represent for the weekend.

The Masters 4/5 and 123 groups represented Wheaton Franciscan well and had some excellent success with several team members in each race.

On Saturday in the Masters 4/5, Doug again found his way to the front when it counted most and ended up 3rd.  Rudy and Glen followed up with 5th and 6th for solid top tens.  In the M123 event, the guys worked their way into several moves but it ended up coming down to a final sprint.  With a challenging final corner, the team was happy to put Gene and Ben safely into 9th and 10th spots.  Dave and Ben didn’t have enough racing for the day so they jumped into the Pro123 field for some more fun with the young guns.  Dave did his best to drag Ben up near the front in the last lap to give Ben a chance to get good position coming into the final hill and corner.  Rumor has it he ended up with a top 20 finish.

Sunday the Masters 4/5 team again represented huge with Doug taking the field sprint and Rudy in a fine 3rd place.  Andy picked up 50+ age category win to top off a excellent race for the whole unit.  Doug now has a convincing lead in his category and he is rolling with a great team to support him.  The guys are working well together!

The Masters 123 race was fast from the start and both Scott, Kevin and Chris burned their matches early on.  More than several in the field were popped off the back early.  Kevin and Dave worked the front hard with each other to try and make the winning move.  Dave ended up in the winning break while Kevin chased anything and everything that tried to bridge up.  Dave found a good wheel into the final corner and sprinted it out his first top five of the season with a 4th overall sprinting against some of the top guns.

Overall the team had an excellent weekend of racing.  The Team is looking forward to next Sat when the host the Whitnall Park Spring Classic!
