WI State CX Championship Recap – Sat. Dec 8th

Beautiful weather at Badger Prairie Prairie park for this years CX WI State Championship. The morning  started out chilly – low 30’s but quickly warmed up to the low 40’s. The course was in perfect condition given the mild winter we’ve had so far. Soft ground, with good traction throughout.

Here’s the cap for the team ….

Men – Masters 55+ Category 4 – 55+ – Andy Reiland – 5th

Men – Masters 45+ Category 4 – 45+ – Dave Dineen – 1st (Wisconsin State Champion and WCA overall points title) – Congratulations Dino!!!

Men – Masters 45+ Category 1/2/ – 45+ – Tom Winkel – 11th

Men – Masters 45+ Category 1/2/ – 45+ – Dave Eckel – 16th

Men – Masters 35+ Category 4 – 35+ – Briant Kelly – 3rd (Congrats on the podium Briant !!!)

Men – Masters 35+ Category 1/2/ – 35+ – Tyson Hausdoerffer – gave it a good ride after being sidelined with food poisoning just a few days ago. Tyson shut it down early to rest up for today’s Regionals.

Men – Junior 15-18 – Harrison Winkel – 3rd (Congrats on the podium ‘H’ !!!) … the Juniors ended up riding 4 laps versus 3 for all the other Cat 4 events. Ian Haupt set a blistering first lap pace that set the lap count for the race.

Men – Elite Category 4 – 19-29 – Harrison Winkel – 7th

Men – Elite Category 4 – 19-29 – J Pass – 12th

(Briant Kelly started but I think he may have been asked to join happy hour on the course early – Dino had a large case of the champage of beers).

Men – Elite Category 3 – 19-29 – Marc Ano – 3rd (Congrats on the podium Marc !!!)

Men – Elite Category 3 – 19-29 – Al Krueger – 20th (contrary to the clothing order comment on the spreadsheet, Al did not have pink rainbows or flowers on his kit yesterday)

Men – Pro/Cat 1/2 – 19-29 – Alex Martin – 4th overall, but 3rd Wisconsin resident across the line – thus a podium spot (Congrats Alex !!!). Alex was also the first Cat-2 ride across the line.

Mark Norton was having a solid ride until brake problems ended his day. Mark and Alex were riding in the same pack of riders. Great ride Mark, and thanks to your sister and her friend for cheering on the team.

Where was ‘Monster’ Maloney yesterday you ask? Focusing on his priority of getting through school. I think a good lesson for all of us that even though we love riding, there are other things in life that need tending to first sometimes. There’s always another ride … as in …
