WORS #1: Iola Bump and Jump

After a pretty mild winter, the new and improved Team WI mountain bike contingency was mentally and physically ready to do some WORS racing.

Jason Kayzar races single speed Sport, and he was fortunate enough to get grouped with the first wave of racers for the first race of the year – Iola Bump & Jump. Strategy was to go all out for the first lap and get into the clean airspace. That thinking paid off. Coming through the big bowl on the second lap, he made a few uphill passes and was completely gassed. Luckily, he was able to maintain his position, and recovered enough to get 2nd place… by just 2 seconds! That time was good enough for 16th overall out of 258 entries in the Sport category.

Next up was the Comp race featuring Kevin Pomasl and Tim Racette. They both took off strong, but halfway through lap 1 (of 4) Tim caught a big rock that was thrown up by the guy in front of him and went down hard. He got right back up and took off, but gassed trying to catch back up. Unfortunately, Kevin rolled a tire in the first lap and was unable to finish the race.

Next race is May 16 in Rhinelander.
